I woke up yesterday morning with two expectations for today.
1) That I would get to look and feel and act like a normal human being.
2) That I would get hugs.
Hugs are an amazing, transformative thing.
Words are easy to mess up, as are many myriad aspects of human interaction…but a hug? A real, sincere, me-to-you or you-to-me hug? It’s raw and unadulterated with thought or pretense or anything other than support and love.
The warmth of another human body, not unlike yours, is reassuring. The pressure of the embrace is supportive and relieving. The love, empathy, and caring is universal whether it be fraternal, paternal, romantic or something else entirely.
Good times or bad, there’s just nothing like it. This evening, although I didn’t get to hug everyone I’d like to have, I was able to hug and be hugged by some amazingly wonderful people.
I don’t think I could have picked a better way to welcome in the New Year.
